A traffic jam at a rare sighting on the Serengeti

One of the last lion sighting on the way out of the Serengeti

After leaving our safai we flew from Arusha  to Zanzibar to Dar es Salaam  where we spent a night. This is a rapidily expanding city where the traffic has surpassed the streets . The congestion here  would  make the Mercier bridge a walk in the park. It took 2 hours to drive  8 kms to the hotel . While on route the traffic is so heavy that the street vendors come to the cars selling everything from ice cream to pillows and everything inbetween.  Not a city we would ever want to vacation in.When we  finally arrived  at the town of Victoria Falls it was a much different atmosphere.  The pace is quiet and peaceful. Soon after we arrived we met the next tour leader(Kembo) and  we were briefed on the coming weeks . It was then off to visit Victoria Falls ,one of the 7 natural wonders of the world . The locals call it Tokaleya Tonga: the Smoke that ThundersAfter visiting it we realized why it got its name , and it truly lives up to it . The next day it was off to do some browsing amoungst the local shops. Here it is all about bargaining. Nothing sells at the asking price. It was fun the first time with a vendor but they all come after you and its gets pretty tiring after awhile. They even have guards escort you through the streets to keep the locals from hasseling people.  Tomorrow we start the next 21 day journey . We'll keep you posted with some interesting reading. Now if I can only get Murray  to wrestle with a crocodile I'll post some exciting pics .LOL

Just another day in taking the harvest to market

  1. Hey P & M, and M & M,
Sounds like an interesting time, the animals are certainly amazing when you can get close up. Enjoying your photos, they are really good. Ralph loved the bargaining, he had them eating out of the palm of his hand, Blair and Brett were wonderful at it too. Kasinee and I were too soft, but we had fun. Enjoy your bus on the next leg of your trip, you may be ready to say goodbye to it when you get to Cape Town. What are your other passengers like? A real mixture of nationalities I bet. Have fun.
