We have now left the sand dune area and are 500km closer to
our destination of Cape Town. The area we have travelled in today is the Orange
River wine region and it is lush vegetation after the arid desert. This region
produces 40% of South Africa’s wine. This is also the area where the mighty
Orange River falls 56m into a gorge below thus forming the Augrabies Falls. It
is the world’s 6th largest falls. The gorge is 240m deep and 18km
long. Tonight we stay in a guest house with AC , pool and all other amenities
we lacked in the sand dunes. What a treat!!!!!( and no crawlies under the
bed!!!)
Tomorrow we travel another 400km to a town called Calvinia,
an historic town named after John Calvin, a Swiss religious reformer. The
accommodation is a museum unto itself , filled with antiques and the original architecture of the time
period. One more day of travel until Cape Town.

Sounds like you are anxious to get to Cape Town after such a long time on the road. Enjoy the wonderful wines!
